Introduction to Quilting (table topper)
One 3-hour session ($40)




Class Description
Are you new to quilting and want to learn the basics. Come to the Introduction to Quilting and make a table runner. With this project you will learn to: • Starch and press your fabric • Cut accurately, using a cutting mat and ruler • Sew an accurate ¼” seam • Piece together a simple quilt • Layer and baste your quilt block to make a quilt sandwich • Quilt your quilt sandwich using simple straight lines • Bind your quilt using quick fold-over binding Class Scheduling and Format: Classes are offered in an open-workshop setting, where students may be working on different projects. Each workshop will have no more than 5 students, and start/end times are staggered to ensure that each student gets individualized attention while working on their project. Supply list**: 20—2 1⁄2×12 1⁄2" precut 100% cotton strips (table runner center) • 1—20 1⁄2×40 1⁄2" rectangle of border/backing • 1—16×40" rectangle of fusible fleece/fusible batting Finished table runner: 16×40" Measurements include 1⁄4" seam • (20) 2 1⁄2"x12 1⁄2" precut 100% cotton strips (jelly roll strips) • (1) 20 1⁄2" x 40 1⁄2" fabric for border/backing • (1) 16" x 40" rectangle of fusible fleece/fusible batting • Cotton thread • Spare needles and bobbins Recommended tools: • 1/4" foot, specific to your machine • 24" ruler • Pencil Please provide your own rotary cutters, cutting mats, pins, thread, bobbins, and extra needles. Two irons and ironing boards will be available for shared-use in the classroom. If you would prefer to bring your own iron, I do have several small table-top ironing boards available for use. Don't forget your sewing machine! If you don't have a sewing machine, please let me know ahead of time. I do have a limited number available as needed.
