Summer Camp: Boxy Patchwork Bag; age 10+

Class Description

This Japanese-Style Patchwork bag is an easy tote bag, with a boxy shape, made from 5” fabric squares. I added a hidden zipper pocket on the inside to store a wallet, keys, and any other small items you want to stash. With this beginner-friendly project, you will learn to: • Use your sewing machine • Piece together simple patchwork • Align seams • Create a set-in zipper pocket, handles, and darts • Add edge-stitching and top-stitching Supply list: • 36 (5"x5") charm squares, 9 (10"x10") layer cake squares, OR 6 (18"x21") fat quarters • 1 ½ yard of fabric for lining, handles, and zipper pocket • 2 yards of lightweight fusible interfacing • 7” zipper • Sewing machine • Rotary cutter • Cotton thread • Spare needles and bobbins • Pins • Clips I will provide cutting mats and a 6 x 12 inch ruler for each student's work area. We ask that you please provide your own rotary cutters, pins, thread, bobbins, and extra needles. Two irons and ironing boards will be available for shared-use in the classroom. If you would prefer to bring your own iron, I do have several small table-top ironing boards available for use. Don't forget your sewing machine! If you don't have a sewing machine, please let me know ahead of time. I do have a limited number available, as needed.
