Beginner Free Motion (4 month series)

Next Class: Thu, Oct 5, 12-4 or Sat., Oct 6, 12-4

Class Description

This free-motion series is designed for people who have little or no experience with free motion quilting. At the start of this series, you will drop your feed dogs and learn to control your fabric as you outline basic shapes. The shapes you use will gradually grow in complexity to help you learn to quilt basic motifs. By the end of the series, you will have been introduced to common edge-to-edge (E2E) quilt designs as well as filler designs to use in quilt blocks and borders. Start this 4-month series any time you want. Classes are offered the first week of every month - 2 sessions a month (1 class and 1 workshop). Choose from Thursday-Friday classes, or Saturday-Sunday. Class: Thursday, 12-4 or Saturday, 12-4 Workshop: Friday, 1-4 or Sunday, 1-4 Month 1: Take control Month 2: Use basic shapes and motifs to create meandering designs Month 3: Learn common designs and motifs for sashing and borders Month 4: Apply what you have learned to different shapes and blocks. Generic quilt sandwiches will be provided for practice and learning new techniques, but you will provide the practice panel. Supplies: • Panel(s) of your choice (anything that speaks to you) • Batting and backing for your panel • Free motion foot/embroidery foot/darning foot for your machine (Fabric Place Basement sells generic free motion feet) • Notebook/drawing/sketch pad for practicing and testing designs • New needle in your machine (and extra on-hand) - either universal or topstitch needles are fine • 50 weight cotton thread with matching thread in your bobbins - recommend white and any other color that you feel matches your panel
